July 20, 2011 – ASM Sensors introduced the WB12 series POSITAPE tape extension position sensor in applications that require pulleys. The WB12 sensor provides a measuring range of 118 inches.
The industrial grade position sensor WB12 is constructed with a custom designed stainless steel tape which is coiled on a precision drum. With its high degree of flexibility, the measuring tape yields an extended life of the sensor. It is perfectly suited in applications that require pulleys due to the tight locations where the sensor must be installed. Since the tape also has very smooth surfaces, the risk of icing is reduced during cold operating conditions. The integrated tape dust wiper automatically cleans the tape during operation.
The housing of this position transducer has a IP67 (IP69K) rating with the appropriate mating connector. The WB12 series is available with the industry standard 0.5-10V, 0.5-4.5V and 4-20mA analog outputs as well as SSI, CANopen and CAN SAE J1939 digital outputs. The measurement range is 0-118 inches and has a linearity of +/- 0.05% full scale. This sensor also operates under Safety Integrity Level 2 (SIL2).
At the heart of this sensor is a non-contact magnetic encoder which serves as the angle sensor element for the tape drum. The electrical connection is made with bulkhead M12 connector. The rugged design is shock an vibration resistant and makes it suitable for use in harsh environmental conditions. Together with long-life stainless steel tape and compact housing, the WB12 series can be used in a wide range of applications.
