HARTING introduces har-flex PCB connectors

January 31, 2012 – HARTING introduces har-flex PCB connectors, a space-saving, rugged and flexible PCB connector series for board-to-board and board-to-cable applications in a wide range of industries. In addition to straight connector versions, the product family includes insulation displacement connectors, along with right-angled configurations. PCB designers need maximum flexibility to develop space- and cost-saving layout, which was anticipated by the sheer breadth of the har-flex family. Based on a 2-row, 1.27-mm grid, har-flex offers all even-numbered models from 6 to 100 pins that allows for optimal utilization of PCB real estate and provides the ideal basis for customized solutions.

For mezzanine applications, har-flex has straight models in four different stack heights that allow parallel PCB distances from 8-13.8 mm to be bridged. Mezzanine connector solutions are being utilized extensively in  video switchers, video routers, servers, A/D converters and decoders. The density afforded by mezzanine connections allows for a reduction in cost per channel, rack space usage and a larger amount of compute power. The har-flex connector family in SMT technology is delivered in tape & reel packaging. 100 percent coplanarity testing and standard fitting with pick & place pads guarantee a simple, fully automatic and reliable assembly process. har-flex was developed to help meet the evolving demands being placed on PCBs to deliver greater functionality, which in turn is making them increasingly complex. New, innovative system components like har-flex are needed to accommodate this trend by delivering consistently high performance while taking up less space than traditional PCB connectors. Smaller “box architectures” are expected to replace or supplement some of the large, heavy backplane systems. This has led to increased demand for new types of cost effective, flexible and high density interconnect systems.
