April 5, 2011 - Lanner Electronics released FW-8865 1U network appliance with Intel’s newest server grade work station platform. The FW-8865 uses the Intel Xeon Processor E3-1200 family and Intel C206 chipset. It supports up to 21 LAN ports and features many enterprise level solutions for a mainstream platforms. The FW-8865's 4 onboard LAN ports can feature Generation 3 bypass, which gives end users absolute control over bypass functionality by allowing them control over the bypass ports even when the platform is in a powering on/off stage. The four LAN ports (2 pair bypass) that offer this technology can utilize either the Intel 82574L Gigabit Ethernet Controller or the Intel 82576EB Gigabit Ethernet Controller. A final LAN port is a RJ-45 FE Management Port that can be used for IPMI or OPMA, allowing remote management access to the platform. Additional to the onboard LAN ports, the FW-8865 also has 2 trays for Lanner 8800 Series modules. Lanner Modules can feature 2 to 8 copper or fiber LAN ports. They can feature speeds up to 10GbE per port. These modules allow end users to grow their appliance to meet their demand. Internally, the FW-8865 can hold both of the most recent Intel Xeon processors - the Intel Xeon processor E3-1275 (3.4GHz) and the Intel Xeon processor E3-1225 (3.1GHz). These processors are connected directly to 4 x 240 pin DIMM slots, each of which can carry a maximum of 4GBs of dual-channel DDR3 RAM. It also has one PCIe (x)4 slot for expansion purposes. The FW-8865 is compatible with both Linux and Windows operating systems. There is a RJ-45 Console port, 2 x USB 2.0 ports and a 2 x 20 LCM. The FW-8865 features an internal RTC and a watchdog to ensure constant operation. The platform has been extensively tested for temperatures between 0 and 40o Celsius. It can be ordered with dual power supplies for redundancy purposes.
