Parker Introduces XTR Hose and Tube Fittings

February 10, 2011 - XTR (Extreme Resistance) coated hose and tube fittings from Parker Hannifin  provide corrosion protection for mobile and industrial applications that come into contact with nitrogen-based fertilizers and other harsh chemicals or environmental elements. Using new XTR coating, customers can avoid the potential costs of corrosion damage, including hydraulic system leakage, replacement of fittings, increased warranty costs due to labor, and potential lost sales due to poor product perception.   In applications where nitrogen-based fertilizers are used, or caustic environments are encountered, standard hose and tube fittings can become severely corroded in as little as 14 days. The early onset of red rust - signaled by oxidation and deterioration of the fitting base metal - can degrade the fitting and compromise the integrity of the hydraulic system. This degradation commonly occurs in the agricultural, construction, utility, transportation and processing industries, among others.   Independently Tested In a recent ASTM B117 Salt Spray Test, Parker's XTR-coated fittings provided standard level corrosion resistance for more than 720 hours - more than seven times the SAE requirement of 96 hours.   Environmentally Tough The hose and tube fittings are also ideal for combating corrosion on mobile applications that are subjected to severe environmental conditions, such as above ground mining, snow and ice removal, car wash and intermodal transportation equipment.   OEM Advantages Parker's OEM customers can further benefit from using the fittings as they can gain plant space and increased throughput by potentially eliminating the need for secondary paint lines. Furthermore, machines and equipment designed with XTR-coated fittings are better protected against corrosion during shipment, thus preserving their factory-new appearance.   As newly manufactured equipment is shipped abroad by sea, standard metal plated fittings often corrode in transit. Upon receiving such equipment, customers have been known to refuse it on the basis of the corroded parts - requiring it be returned to the OEM or repaired onsite. In either scenario, the expense to fix the problem is both significant and easily avoidable. New extreme resistance hose and tube fittings were engineered to eliminate these concerns.   Certified   Parker XTR-coated fittings comply with:

  • SAE J514 and J1453
  • "Restrictions of Hazardous Substances" - Directive 2002/95/EG (RoHS)
  • "End of Life Vehicle" - Directive 2000/53/EG (ELV)

"Registration, Evaluation, and Authorization of Chemicals" (REACH) The Hose Products Division and Tube Fittings Division are units of Parker Hannifin Corporation's Fluid Connectors Group. The Group is headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, and is the world's leading producer of tube fittings, rubber and thermoplastic hose and fittings, brass fittings and valves, quick-connect couplings and assembly tools.
