ABB introduces LoopSCAN Advanced Remote Service

May 27, 2010 – ABB released LoopSCAN, a new Advanced Remote Service. ABB’s deployment of LoopSCAN dramatically improves visualization to allow more end users to work with this powerful data collection and software algorithm. The performance of each control loop is evaluated based on responses related to: control, process, signal conditioning and tuning. Each loop that gets a poor rating is counted as having an issue that needs further investigation. LoopSCAN uncovers the financial opportunities that exist with an outcome to improve product quality, increase production, offer wider operating ranges, reduce waste and provide energy savings. LoopSCAN is the latest in the SCAN series of advanced tools. DriveSCAN, another advanced tool, was introduced in early 2009. ABB pioneered Basic Remote Services to provide clients with real-time visibility into the information needed to solve and prevent problems. Available within three remote service levels: Troubleshooting: ABB provides on-demand remote diagnostic support for a specific problem or failure. Periodic Maintenance: ABB provides scheduled asset SCANS and evaluation against established benchmarks. A detailed health check report includes a summary of findings and recommended preventive and corrective maintenance. Condition Monitoring: Remote Services Condition Monitoring employs 800xA Asset Optimization to TRACK the condition of a client’s critical assets. Conditions exceeding pre-established thresholds trigger immediate response through the escalation process. ABB extends remote solution offering with new Advanced Remote Services to dramatically improve equipment and process performance. LoopSCAN uses the LS200 tool to analyze 200-300 DCS loops and output performance ranking, loop criticality ranking and root cause analysis DriveSCAN monitors drive and process parameters to improve expert level troubleshooting, allowing for remote audits and condition-based process and drive monitoring Dan Overly, subBU Manager, Lifecycle Services, Process Automation Service, is responsible for the implementation of PA Service’s Lifecycle Services strategy. “ABB’s Remote Services supply papermakers with powerful resources to help them troubleshoot, respond to emergencies and operate at maximum efficiency – no matter where they are located. The ABB Global Pulp and Paper division is so committed to bringing the value of remote connectivity to our clients that we now include remote connectivity capability with every pulp and paper project.” ABB is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 120,000 people.
