May 26, 2010 - FSG introduces KT series of cable drums which can be used to measure length, speed and/or tilt angles. Moreover, users can also transfer supply voltage and measuring data via the measuring cable. The series consists of units with measuring lengths of up to 100 m. Thanks to their modular design, the cost-efficient devices can be extended through various add-ons, allowing for easy adaptation to specific applications.The angle is measured by a high-resolution micro-electromechanical inclination measuring system which covers a 360° measuring range and reaches a measuring accuracy of ±0.1%. The length measurement is carried out by means of the draw-wire principle with a multi-core measuring cable, which is wound in one or several layers on a cable drum equipped with a return spring. The number of length-proportional drum rotations is measured by a magnetic angle sensor. The various models of the KT series provide a length measuring accuracy between ±0.5 und ±2%. They supply a current or voltage signal. Optionally, length and inclination values can also be measured and read out by means of a digital sensor system; e.g. through a CANopen interface. FSG also supplies these devices as redundant versions for safety-relevant applications, e.g. SIL 2 according to IEC 61508.Measured data and control signals are transmitted via the measuring cable, which can be customized with any number of cable cores according to user requirements. Depending on the cable type, the signals are gripped by a slip ring body with up to 26 poles and bounded to terminal strips. A completely closed aluminum cast housing ensures IP65 protection. The modular cable drums can be used for the measurement of telescopic arms and booms in cranes and lifting platforms or for controlling stage constructions in event technology applications.
