January 10, 2010 - Pepperl+Fuchs introduces Transflective Flat Panel Monitors. These 15 in. transflective models are specifically designed to deliver the high viewability needed in applications with direct sunlight, as well as the robust operation demanded of harsh outdoor environments and/or continuous duty operations.A regular transmissive LCD has poor readability in outdoor environments, so many low cost flat panel manufactures’ try to solve this problem by increasing the number or intensity of the backlight bulbs illuminating the LCD modules. This approach provides a certain level of sunlight readability; but there are also drawbacks such as extra power consumption, excessive heat generation, and the need for a larger then necessary housing to accommodate the extra bulbs. The excessive heat generated by the additional bulbs will also prematurely age the LCD components, causing a very short life span of the display.A better solution is transflective LCD technology. Unlike a standard transmissive LCD where lights from the backlight pass through the LCD layer to combat ambient light, a transflective LCD reflects and transmit light, actually leveraging the ambient light to improve visibility across the widest range of ambient light conditions. Pepperl+Fuchs Industrial Flat Panel Monitors are a true industrialized monitor made of 100% industrial-grade components that deliver the highest MTBF in the industry at over 550,000 hours. These high quality monitors are available as general purpose displays or as a UL listed Class I/Div 2 device. They come in a variety of mounting styles to suit varying application needs, and can even be combined with a Pepperl+Fuchs Bebco EPS purge system for Class I/Div. 1 hazardous environment mounting. Touch screen options are available. These flat panel monitors are rated for use in temperatures ranging from -10° C to 55° C. They accept standard VGA or NTSC inputs from a PC or video camera source. Additionally, they can multi-sync to any standard video mode from 640x480 to 1600x1200 at scan rates from 60 to 75 Hz, without image distortion or flicker. The DM5xx are 12 VDC powered displays, powered from an external power supply to keep heat away from the monitor, maximizing reliability and operating life.
