Bachmann adds infrared touchscreens to terminals

July 1, 2009 - Bachmann Electronic is now offering 300 series devices with 10.4” and 15” screens with an infrared touch-screen option.Terminals with infrared touch-screen technology are ideal for use in dirty and harsh environments. Horizontally and vertically arranged infrared transmitters create an invisible ‘light curtain’ in front of the display. IR sensitive receivers on the opposite sides of the screen detect where the user is touching the screen. The glass in front of the sensitive TFT Display primarily serves a protective function. Unlike in resistive touch-screen technology, no light is absorbed by the foil on the display and therefore the display light is not reduced. Thus the display has considerably better contrast and is therefore much easier to read. A special anti-reflex and protective hard coating on the glass prevent disturbing light reflection and allows the screen to withstand strong mechanical impact. Together this offers the machine builder a clear value. The exceptional robustness of the display glass has also been proven in impact tests carried out in accordance with EN50102 (ball drop test). This gives the complete IPC the protection class IK08 (Test characteristics: steel ball with a 50 mm diameter and a weight of 1.7 kg).
