Lanner introduces LUGE LEC-7500 digital signage computer

June 1, 2009 - Lanner Electronics announced an Intel Atom-based fanless embedded computer with discrete graphics for digital signage. The Lanner LUGE LEC-7500 is the smallest form factor embedded system with internal storage, and the only digital signage platform to offer discrete graphics and 1080p Full HD video output (1920x1080, 50fps) with the popular 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU. The HDMI video port can be connected to any high definition screen to produce crystal clear high definition video and audio. The LEC-7500 measures only 43 mm in height and weighs 2.7 kg (without hard drive). It supports Windows XP 32-bit, XPe, and Linux kernel 2.6.xx and up. Despite its small size, the LEC-7500 offers a full feature set including tri-video out (VGA, DVI-D and HDMI), four USB 2.0 ports, two serial ports, two Gigabit LAN ports and audio in/out jacks. The LEC-7500 also provides a mini-PCIe socket for a wireless module and a PCI Express slot for the graphics extension module. High definition video is supplied by the LEC-7500’s discrete graphics card based on the VIA S3 4300E GPU with 512MB DDR2 graphics memory. It supports resolutions up to 1920x1080 at 50 frames per second, providing an extremely clear and crisp HD video experience. Operating temperatures with industrial components range from -20 to 50 degrees Celcius. It includes both a CompactFlash socket and an SATA port for an internal 2.5" HDD. An onboard 1GB DDR2 memory IC plus a 200-pin SO-DIMM provide up to 2GB total system memory. The Lanner LEC-7500 is currently available for early samples. "By combining discrete graphics with the Intel Atom CPU, Lanner has developed a platform for HD digital signage solutions in a fanless, small form factor embedded system," said Vincent Leu, Product Planner, Lanner Embedded Computing. "The digital signage industry has shown a lot of interest in the Atom processor due to its outstanding performance-per-watt, its small size and the ability to build completely fanless systems on an Atom CPU." "The LEC-7500 is our first product designed specifically for the HD signage market," said Leu. "Because of its small size and fanless design, we expect that it will become a very popular digital signage platform. And because it is built on the Atom CPU and supports both Windows and Linux operating systems, developers will be able to bring complete HD signage products to market more quickly and economically, resulting in a higher return on investment for our partners and customers."
