August 11, 2009 - Siemens Energy & Automation expanded its range of write/read devices in the UHF range (915MHz) with two new compact RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) readers, the Simatic RF620R and RF630R.The Simatic RF620R is equipped with an integrated UHF antenna, while up to two external UHF antennas can be connected to the Simatic RF630R. With Simatic RF communication modules, these readers can be integrated directly into S7 PLCs as well as in many common communication networks based on Ethernet (ProfiNet, EthernetIP, and TCP/IP) and Profibus. Standard function blocks are available for the Simatic Step 7 programming software environment. In addition to being fitting into tight spaces because of their compact design, these stationary readers have an IP65 protection rating and can be used in harsh industrial environments. The new readers are capable of reliable selective tag identification, secure data communication, and are suitable for directly identifying objects at short to medium write/read distances of up to three meters. The ideal application areas for these readers are applications using PLC-based automation technology, and transponders conforming to the EPC Gen2 and ISO 18000-6C standards such as manufacturing, material handling and supply-chain tracking and tracing. RF620R and RF630R readers enable the design of process chains, which consistently utilize UHF technology according to EPC and ISO standards, from receipt of raw materials, through production, to finished goods.About Siemens: Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. is one of Siemens operating companies in the U.S. Headquartered in the Atlanta suburb of Alpharetta, Ga., Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. manufactures and markets one of the worlds broadest ranges of electrical and electronic products, systems and services to industrial and construction market customers.
