MILWAUKEE, Feb. 21, 2008 Shipbuilders and other manufacturers operating in marine-related environments now have new powerful control system options as a result of the recent marine certification of two Allen-Bradley CompactLogix controllers and several PanelView Plus operator interfaces from Rockwell Automation. This certification helps give end users a higher level of confidence when selecting a solution for their marine-based applications.Marine environments present unique operational challenges for automation equipment, which makes the selection process that much more critical, said Mike Hannah, marketing manager, Rockwell Automation. With high-performance features, exceptional scalability, and proven reliability, the CompactLogix controllers and PanelView Plus operator interfaces offer the ideal mix of attributes to help meet these tough application demands. The Allen-Bradley CompactLogix L32E and CompactLogix L35E controllers, and several PanelView Plus operator interfaces received the marine certification through a rigorous testing process conducted by seven global agencies over a 45-day period at the Rockwell Automation Mayfield Heights, Ohio laboratory. As part of the marine certification process, products are tested to evaluate their performance in high humidity, extreme hot and cold temperatures, vibration, and electromagnetic compatibility, as defined by the marine societies and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards. The products also are evaluated so that radio frequency emissions do not exceed the established marine industry standards, as excessive emissions can potentially interfere with the performance of a ships electronic devices. The CompactLogix L35E controller combines the benefits of the Rockwell Automation Logix control platform a common programming environment, network architecture and control engine with a compact design. In addition to marine applications, this controller is ideal for applications such as material handling, conveyors and packaging, where the EtherNet/IP connectivity allows cost-efficient, plant-wide data-sharing. The CompactLogix L32E controller is a scaled-down version of the CompactLogix L35E controller, creating a more economical solution for less complex applications. Offering a user memory capacity of 750 Kbytes, the CompactLogix L32E controller supports 16 local I/O modules. Removable CompactFlash support allows fast, portable program archival and recovery options, and a potential battery alternative. In addition, the integrated 10/100 Mbps EtherNet/IP connectivity delivers high-speed data throughput for distributed I/O, human-machine interface and data collection. The PanelView Plus operator interfaces are designed to help optimize system development, performance and efficiency. They feature modular components, multiple communication options, advanced graphic features and reusable development tools. Select 6-inch, 7-inch, 10-inch and 12-inch PanelView terminals with marine certification will be launched in phases beginning in February 2008. Rockwell Automation Inc.
