July 9, 2008, Braine-l’Alleud, Belgium. eWON announces two new eWON modules, the eWON 2005CD and eWON 4005CD (CD stands for Compact Design). These two latest additions to the eWON family are the result of a hardware redesign (one PCB instead of two PCB cards) on the previous 2005 and 4005 modules. As a result these new reduced form-factor devices can be offered at a much more attractive price to respond to the high demand from OEM’s and machines builders markets. New features such as 32 Mbytes of internal memory, DHCP client and an internet setup wizard have also been added. The eWON 2005CD and 4005CD modules also improve serial connectivity, adding MPI/PROFIBUS protocol support to existing DF1, UnitelWay, Modbus RTU and Fins Hostlink protocols. The MPI/PROFIBUS versions of the eWON 2005CD and 4005CD modules give truly transparent communication between Siemens SIMATIC Step 7 on a PC and a network of Siemens S7-300/400 devices. The eWON 2005CD and eWON 4005 CD are full IP routers featuring “Factory” LAN to “Machine” LAN routing functionalities. The modules offer a WAN Ethernet port for connecting to the Internet passing outward through the local IT network (factory or office LAN) and firewall. By using Talk2M, remote authenticated users can then access any eWON device connected to the Internet using a fully bi-directional VPN link from their PC, whilst circumventing the complexity that may exist within site IT network infrastructures. An optional built-in modem can be provided as a back-up access making eWON 2005CD/4005CD a powerful dual LAN/Modem connectivity device.
