MTL announces HCS 8000 hybrid control system

  • April 14, 2008

April 14, 2008 - Porto Alegre, Brazil. MTL and Elipse Software introduced the HCS 8000 Hybrid Control System. This system has Elipse E3 automation software tightly integrated with MTL Open System Technologies (MOST) Process Automation Controllers and I/O. The two companies will work together to expand the 8000 Series of high-performance Input/Output (I/O) modules optimized for use with the E3 software platform. About HCS 8000The HCS 8000 delivers the performance that you expect from a distributed control system at a price that is normally associated with a programmable logic controller. The HCS 8000 rugged control platform is tightly integrated with the innovative, object-oriented E3 software. The system’s comprehensive process management tools provide a unified environment for visualization, plant historian, batch management, device communications and instrument maintenance. The HCS 8000 Workbench simultaneously supports process and discrete automation strategies, an ideal solution for process applications that also require some sequential logic in a process environment. The Workbench is an open, easy to use process control engineering and management solution that automatically configures control solutions ranging from straightforward, single loops to advanced control strategies. The HCS 8000 Workbench automatically maintains the project documentation in the as-built state from the initial engineering phases through subsequent system modifications. Project documentation is continually kept current to the operating control system, eliminating the tedious task of maintaining documentation after a system has been commissioned. The HCS 8000 Controller is a rugged, field-mountable control platform intended for those process applications that might previously have used programmable logic controllers (PLCs) because of their ability to scale to fit smaller applications. The controller provides process customers with an effective alternative to PLC solutions. When combined with MTL8000 Process I/O components, it offers cost-savings over control-room mounted systems as well as flexible system design and high system availability. The HCS 8000 is an ideal solution for harsh and hazardous applications. The system operates over the –40°C to +70°C typical of industrial, harsh process applications. The controller features a rigorous redundancy model and has redundant Ethernet communications ports for reliable system operations and high-speed communications. The HCS 8000 is targeted at the process automation market, including the following industries: chemicals and petrochemicals, water and waste water, oil and gas pipeline, cement, pulp and paper, power generation and electrical distribution, food and beverage. The HCS 8000, with its simultaneous support of function block programming and IEC 61131-3 programming, is an ideal solution for those process applications that have considered using a PLC.“Elipse has earned the respect of high-end industrial customers in Brazil who appreciate the company’s ability to provide excellence in many diverse software automation applications,” according to David Reynolds, Vice President of MOST. “We are pleased to work with Elipse to provide a complete control solution with our broad range of controllers and I/O modules that are seamlessly integrated with the E3 process management software.”“Robust, flexible I/O is critical to the reliable operation of any process automation system”, said Claudia Masi Messias, Commercial Manager of Elipse Software. “The HCS 8000 will combine the solid performance record of the Elipse popular E3 Process Automation Software with the market leading process automation solutions from MOST, providing a complete control solution for the Brazilian market place. We are pleased to work with MOST as a recognized market leader.”About Elipse SoftwareElipse Software is the largest automation software solution provider in Brazil. Headquartered in the city of Porto Alegre, with offices in São Paulo and Curitiba and, in the USA. Elipse has worldwide installations of more than 15,000 copies, with a broadening market presence outside of Brazil, including the United States, Germany, India, Taiwan, China, Russia, Malaysia, Sweden, Argentina, Chile, Colombia and others. Elipse Software offers powerful, easy-to-configure products for the development of HMI/SCADA applications, providing cost-effective solutions for both simple projects and complex process management systems. With Elipse SCADA and E3, you have the best tools to increase the efficiency and quality of your processes.About MTL Open System Technologies (MOST)MOST is the leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of open hardware and software technology-based components for the process automation and functional safety markets. MOST products are targeted at the OEMs and systems integrators in the process automation market, including the following industries: oil and gas, chemicals and petrochemicals, water and waste water, cement, pulp and paper, power generation and electrical distribution, food and beverage. MOST Controllers, with their simultaneous support of function block programming and IEC 61131-3 programming, are an ideal solution for those process applications that have considered using a PLC. SIL 2 certified control systems are built on the same platform as MOST’s process control solutions, enabling a single platform to address both process control and shutdown needs and providing users with considerable savings. GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms, a unit of GE Enterprise Solutions, and MTL Instruments Group plc, have entered into an agreement for GE Fanuc to acquire the assets of MTL Open System Technologies (MOST). The transaction is expected to close in the near future, subject to customary closing conditions.
