FOXBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, USA - February 1, 2007 - Invensys has introduced a line of 3A-authorized sanitary vortex flowmeters for use in pharmaceutical applications. The new, HART-compatible Foxboro Model 84S Sanitary Vortex flowmeters incorporate patented technologies that provide users with unprecedented reliability, accuracy, and installation flexibility for tighter process control. "The 84S Vortex flowmeter line provides higher accuracy and wider rangeability than other sanitary flow measurement devices, including both positive displacement and magnetic flowmeters - without the mechanical complexity or high cost," said Joseph Downey, marketing director, Foxboro Measurements & Instruments division of Invensys. "The straightforward design of the 84S Sanitary Vortex flowmeter ensures accurate, reliable performance with an overall low cost of ownership for pharmaceutical processing applications." Designed for use in sanitary liquid, gas, or steam pharmaceutical applications, the Foxboro 84S Vortex Series provides best-in-class accuracies of ±0.5 percent of reading with liquids, and ±1.0 percent of reading with gas and steam. The 84S Sanitary Vortex is 3A-authorized per specification 28-03 and features a crevice-free design with no moving parts. The process-wetted parts are 316 stainless steel and 316L stainless steel, and finished to 3A 25 RA (0.5 micrometers) sanitary standards. The 84S Vortex design facilitates use in clean-in-place (CIP) processes where various combinations of cleaning solutions, air purging, or saturated steam SIP) are present at temperatures to 204 degrees C (400 degrees F).The 84S Vortex flowmeters are available in 2-inch and 3-inch sanitary line sizes (50 mm and 80 mm), common with sanitary applications, for flow rates ranging from 5.50 gpm to 648 gpm (0.346 L/s to 40.80 L/s). All 84S models are provided with a permanently sealed, stainless steel sensor. The Foxboro Model 84S Vortex line takes advantage of two patented technologies to provide best of class performance, reliability, and installation flexibility. DirectSense technology eliminates mechanical sensor linkages used in conventional vortex meters. This improves both reliability and performance by eliminating moving parts, minimizing the effects of process "noise," and increasing the sensitivity of flow readings. For installation flexibility, the 84S Vortex flowmeter features patented Active Tuning technology, which allows the flowmeter to be configured to compensate for the effects of most non-ideal upstream pipeline conditions, such as elbows and reducers. The 84S Sanitary Vortex meter can operate in runs as short as five pipe diameters with full accuracy. This is important in situations where it is not possible to provide the recommended pipe diameters of unobstructed straight pipe. The Foxboro Model 84S Vortex line transmits a 4-20 mA or digital output, and a pulse output signal as applicable; and it uses a HART communications protocol for remote configuration, calibration, and monitoring. For local configuration and monitoring, the 84S Sanitary Vortex features a digital indicator that displays total flow and/or instantaneous flow rate in user selected flow units and has four pushbuttons on the indicator for local configuration. Foxboro has been a pioneer and leader in vortex flow technology for more than 30 yearsAbout InvensysInvensys is the world leader in industrial asset performance management.
