AVON, Conn. (January 22, 2007) OFS Specialty Photonics Division has introduced a new cable designed for factory automation. Factory5 cable is ideal for PLC-to-PLC connections on the factory floor and similar industrial applications. The cable is based on proven 200m HCS fiber with a 500µm ETFE buffer. The buffered fiber is encased in aramid yarn and jacketed with PVC to 2.5 mm. A high-strength aramid braid is then applied for increased strength and durability. The cable is given a final jacket up to 5.0 mm black PVC.This cables rugged design combines high strength and long term durability, which are critical issues in harsh industrial environments, said Michael Conroy, OFS Marketing Manager for Industrial Markets. Factory5 cable has an allowable load of up to 300 lbs (1334N) during installation and 150lbs (667N) during operation at a minimum radius of 2.95" (75mm) during installation and 2.0" (50mm) during operation and is also UL Riser Rated for added safety. The cable materials are heavy metal free and the design is RoHS compliant per EU Directive 2002895/EC. The cable is fully compatible with the OFS line of "crimp and cleave" terminations. The cable can be terminated quickly and easily with no epoxy and no polishing using ST and SMA connectors.
