GarrettCom announces configurable Managed Ethernet Switch

Field-hardened Magnum 6KQ Targeted to Factory Automation, Video Surveillance, Power Substations, Oil and Gas, with Optional PoE October 16, 2006, Houston, Tex. – GarrettCom, Inc, Fremont, Calif., is demonstrating the company’s new, highly configurable Magnum 6KQ Ethernet Managed Field Switch, at the ISA Expo here today. This compact, environmentally sealed Ethernet switch draws upon the 6K family’s modular architecture to provide the greatest configuration flexibility in its class. The Magnum 6KQ switch can be configured with up to 12 100Mb fiber ports, or user selected combinations of 10Mb, 100Mb, and Gig fiber ports of any fiber port connector types. Copper port options include 10/100/1000 RJ-45 copper ports, as well as up to eight 10/100 PoE ports. The rugged Magnum 6KQ handles stressful workloads (mixes of bursty data traffic and priority streaming traffic) as well as harsh environmental conditions. “As Ethernet has become more pervasive in industrial automation applications, there is increasing demand for sophisticated network management functionality and a variety of port options all the way to the edge of the network,” said Frank Madren, GarrettCom President. “The 6KQ offers unprecedented configuration flexibility, along with advanced security and redundancy features, in a field switch.” The 6KQ can be configured with the user’s choice of DC power supplies: 24V for factory floor, 48V for tariffed carrier field facilities and for PoE-powered applications such as video surveillance, and 125V for power substations. All power supplies are optionally available with dual-source for high availability. The 6KQ managed switch uses the powerful MNS-6K software that is included with all 6K family switches. The MNS-6K network management software provides for a complete range of management services designed for ease-of-use, security, and redundancy, offering features including GUI ease of use, secure web management, SNMPv2/v3 management control, 802.1p QoS Packet Prioritization, Tag-based VLANs, IGMP snooping and IGMP-L2 for managing multicast, port security, RADIUS and TACACS+ support, a choice of multiple redundancy options including RSTP and GarrettCom’s rapid-ring-recovery S-Ring and RS-Ring products. 6KQ Field Switches use patent-pending advanced thermal design techniques with ribbed aluminum cases to produce maximum heat dissipation in a rugged no-fans sealed package. They can be used in the harshest industrial-grade environments, and provide high EMI noise immunity. Available with Conformal Coating options and rated IP53 for water and dust resistance, the 6KQ Field Switches are designed to meet Class 1 Division 2 certification requirements for hazardous environments such as those found in oil and gas, mining, and chemical plants. The Magnum 6KQ Switch brings advanced managed networking capabilities deeper into hostile environments. Like all Magnum products, the 6KQ Field Switch has all appropriate agency approvals and compliance certifications, including: third-party UL testing for safety and temperature rating, NEBS L3 and ETSI compliance, IEC61850 and IEEE1613 standards for power substations, and NEMA TS-2 and TEES for DC-powered traffic control equipment. Pricing and Delivery GarrettCom products are marketed through a network of resellers, system integrators, manufacturers representatives, and international distributors. Highly affordable and small-footprint Magnum 6KQ Configurable Managed Field Switches start at $700. All products are available for delivery two weeks ARO.
