RobotStudio is the 3D offline programming environment from ABB Robotics. Toolpaths generated from CAD/CAM packages can now be imported into the RobotStudio environment via the IRBCAM software. By having the cutting toolpaths inside RobotStudio, the user can now simulate the robotic machining paths in 3D graphics and check for collisions and reachability using the exact same software as on the real IRC5 robot controllers from ABB. In addition, the new feature MultiMove from ABB can now for the first time be used on CAD/CAM toolpaths to distribute the motions between the robot and external actuators, such as turntables and linear tracks. ABB robots are ideally suited to machining of light materials such as foam, wood and aluminium. Machining can be made in large workspaces of several square metres with a typical accuracy of 0.2-0.3mm.
