MINNEAPOLIS - Sept. 30, 2025 – With its Visionary AI-Assist, SICK is presenting an AI-based sensor solution for outdoor collision avoidance and monitoring of the surroundings, as well as the detection of people. The sensor solution combines 2D and 3D image processing.
It reliably detects people and objects to determine their distance from the sensor. The integrated AI ensures reliable recognition of people even in difficult conditions and prevents false alarms.
The Visionary AI-Assist sensor solution consists of two components: the Visionary-B Two 3D stereo camera and the AI-Assist software. The camera is used for distance measurement, object detection, and environmental perception in indoor and outdoor areas.
The AI-Assist software uses artificial intelligence to classify people. This enables the current hazards within the working space of a mobile machine to be assessed and selective warnings to be issued.
All-in-one device for 2D and 3D environmental perception in outdoor applications
Visionary AI-Assist combines data acquisition, processing, and output in a single device. The device does not require additional sensor hardware, a separate controller or integration into the cloud. Using stereoscopy, Visionary AI-Assist captures two-dimensional images from which three-dimensional point clouds are then generated.
Stereo cameras are especially suitable for use in harsh conditions due to their physical characteristics. The field of view of the camera can be adjusted (130° x 105° up to a scanning range of 16 meters, or 90° x 60° up to scanning range of a 37 meters).
The area in which people or objects are detected can also be customized. This enables the system to be flexibly adapted to different requirements.
Flexible integration via the standard interfaces
Thanks to platform-independent configuration and visualization via a web browser, the Visionary AI-Assist can be flexibly controlled. For control-related integration, the system solution provides digital inputs and outputs, Ethernet with REST API and RTSP live video streaming as well as CAN based on J1939. This enables the system to be flexibly integrated into mobile machines for a wide variety of applications.
Compliance with industry-specific EMC standards
Visionary AI-Assist was specially developed for mobile machines and meets all essential requirements on outdoor applications: power supply of 10 to 57 V DC, operating temperatures from –40 °C to +55 °C as well IP67, IP69 and IPx9K enclosure rating.
The solution is EMC-compliant according to EN ISO 14982 (agriculture and forestry), EN 13766 (construction machinery) and EN 12895 (industrial trucks) and tested for vibration and shock resistance.
Extensive, practical integration accessories
Visionary AI-Assist can be used for retrofitting on existing mobile machines or as basic equipment. In both cases, a variety of accessories assist with integrating the device into the vehicle. Well-designed mounting kits, for example–optionally with vibration damping–ensure a long-term stable mounting on the vehicle.
The required power supply and connectivity are provided by power and Ethernet cables. A protection hood protects against weather influences such as rain, dust or sunlight.
