ISA’s 2016 FPID Symposium

February 24, 2016 - Leading innovators and other professionals involved in automating food, beverage and pharmaceutical processing—and two highly distinguished keynote speakers—will highlight the 2016 ISA Food and Pharmaceutical Industries (FPID) Symposium, 14-15 March in beautiful Cork, Ireland.

This dynamic event will explore how automation can help address critical challenges—relating to regulatory requirements, manufacturing costs, security threats and other concerns—within the food and pharmaceutical sectors. Special attention will examine the role of automation technology and innovation in meeting longer-term global dynamics and demands.

Conference sessions, led by the world’s leading experts, will cover a wide range of critical issues and topics, including:

  • Cybersecurity
  • Sustainable processing
  • Data integrity
  • Alarm management
  • Industrial Internet of Things
  • Usage of cloud for automation
  • Instrumentation: calibration, wireless
  • Batch management & MES
  • ISA standards
  • Process optimization
  • Serialization/ Track and Trace
  • OEE, PAT, GAMP
  • Energy/ waste management
  • Process control
  • Paperless automation
  • Manufacturing regulations

Daily networking luncheons and receptions will set the stage for mingling, meeting new people and reconnecting with old friends.

Two outstanding keynote speakers
Two widely recognized leaders in automation— Marc Hooybergs, Engineering Fellow and Senior Director of Execution Systems at Johnson & Johnson (Pharmaceuticals/Consumer); and Peter Martin, Ph.D., Vice President and Fellow at Schneider Electric Company—will deliver keynote addresses during the event. Below are the presentation titles and abstracts as well as summary biographies of these two highly remarkable speakers.

“Using Data to Optimize the Product Life Cycle”
Speaker: Marc Hooybergs

Presentation Abstract
Pharmaceutical product development presents challenges with respect to the rigor in both scientific and ultimately engineering knowledge around the process to ensure consistent product quality. The industry is under increasing demand to reduce costs of development and ultimately production of such medicinal products that ultimately is forcing organizations to recalibrate their knowledge management strategies. Knowledge management is a business problem first and foremost but can be accelerated with the underlying information technologies platform selections.  As such, this presentation will focus on the adaptation of ISA-88/95 and underlying infrastructure for the semantic definition and capture of knowledge across a product development lifecycle leveraging open source.

Summary bio
Marc Hooybergs is a results-driven leader with more than 27 years of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) Small Molecule experience.

He possesses proven expertise and demonstrated leadership in engineering, maintenance, project management and equipment technology transfer in highly regulated environments. His consistent record of success in leading projects and functional teams has been critical to achieving business goals.

In July of 2014, Hooybergs was named Senior Director of Execution Systems at Johnson & Johnson as part of the company’s Center of Excellence (COE) initiative. In this position, he leads and manages a group of directors, managers and individual contributors who own product and process content, and technology process actions and libraries across manufacturing and lab space for multiple pharmaceutical and consumer platforms.

Prior to being appointed to his current position, Hooybergs served as Senior Principal Engineer at Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a Johnson & Johnson company.

“Innovation and a Future Perspective on Automation and Control”
Speaker: Peter Martin

Presentation Abstract
Industrial automation is a field in which continual and impactful innovations have occurred over the last century. Today there are a number of key initiatives and technologies in industrial automation, such as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), Industrie 4.0, cloud computing, and big data analytics that, taken as a whole, may be indicative of a period of breakthrough innovation that has not been seen since the introduction of the computer as a delivery vehicle for control. This presentation will investigate the different levels of innovation, why industrial automation and control may be at an inflection point leading to inspirational innovation and what this might in terms of performance improvements for food and pharmaceutical companies.

Summary bio
Peter Martin is widely recognized as one of the most influential professionals and experts in automation and control. He has held a range of executive and technical positions in engineering, product and strategic planning, marketing and training throughout his career. He served as Vice President of Invensys Operations Management for 37 years.

Dr. Martin holds multiple patents, including patents for dynamic performance measures, real-time activity-based costing, closed-loop business control, and asset and resource modeling. He has published numerous articles and technical papers, and has authored or co-authored six books. An ISA Fellow, Dr. Martin is a recipient of the ISA Life Achievement Award, and has been named as one of the 50 most influential innovators of all time in instrumentation and controls.

He has earned numerous academic degrees, including: a bachelor of arts degree and master of science degree in mathematics; a master of arts degree in administration and management, a master of arts and a doctorate degree in biblical studies; and a doctorate degree in industrial engineering.

Take advantage of two ISA training opportunities
Attendees will add value to their event experience by taking an on-location ISA training course. Two high-value ISA courses are offered:

Introduction to the Management of Alarm Systems (IC39C)

Introduction to Industrial Automation Security and the ANSI/ISA-62443 Standards (IC32C)

Learn about the latest products and services
An exhibit showcase will feature the latest product and service information at engaging vendor and supplier exhibits. Sponsorships and exhibit spaces are still available, providing an opportunity to directly connect with key decision makers.
