Moxa Announces Position on Internet of Things

October 21, 2014 - Moxa released its position on Enabling the Industrial Internet of Things at the company's Global Distributor Summit in San Francisco, California.

"In our 27 years of business, Moxa has worked to enable greater connectivity and convergent communications in the industrial sector," according to John Yelland, Moxa's Vice President of Global Marketing. "Our core strengths make us a natural choice for users that wish to enable the Industrial Internet of Things for their operations."

Several prominent guest speakers were invited to present their thoughts on enabling the Industrial Internet of Things:

  • Dr. Richard Soley, the Executive Director of the Industrial Internet Consortium founded earlier this year by General Electric, Cisco, Intel, IBM, and AT&T., presented the keynote speech on the challenges and exciting possibilities of achieving true interoperability in the industrial realm.
  • Randy Iwasaki, Executive Director of the Contra Costa Transportation Authority, discussed how communications technology is driving improvements in safety and traffic congestion in California.
  • Krishna Srinivasan, Global President and Managing Partner of Frost & Sullivan, presented Moxa with the prestigious Frost & Sullivan award for Customer Value Leadership in Industrial Communications and discussed the global trend towards connectivity and convergence.

Attendees were presented with examples of successful implementations of Industrial IoT-related communications infrastructure, including a remote wellhead surveillance solution that has generated interest among major oil and gas providers. Moxa also presented high profile examples of successful deployments for mission-critical applications on the International Space Station, the High Roller observation wheel in Las Vegas, and the Caldecott Tunnel in California.

The global summit and announcement reinforce the company's intention to take a leadership role in the rapidly developing Industrial Internet of Things space. Moxa was one of the first industrial communications companies to join the Industrial Internet Consortium and has already begun developing programs and materials to help educate users about the Industrial IoT concept and potential.

"The Industrial Internet of Things will create enormous value for society by making our industrial operations vastly smarter and more efficient," Yelland said. "Moxa is proud to have a leading role in enabling this future."

Moxa's Global Distributor Summit is an invitation-only event for the company's closest and most strategic distribution partners from around the world. Conducted once every three years, the summit serves as a forum to provide global direction and leadership and discuss regional marketing strategy.
