OSI selected by Alba to implement updated SCADA system

February 1, 2017 - Open Systems International Inc. (OSI) has been awarded a contract by a major EPC contractor as part of the Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba) Line 6 Expansion Project to replace the company's legacy XA/21 SCADA/EMS system with a SCADA/EMS system based on OSI's monarch platform.

Alba consistently ranks among the largest  aluminum smelters in the world. Alba enforces strict environmental guidelines, maintains a positive track record for safety, and is widely regarded as one of the top 10 performers on a global scale.

This OSI SCADA/EMS includes the advanced functionality provided by OSI's next-generation, .NET-based Graphical User Interface (GUI); Remote Console GUI; Data Engineering and Maintenance Subsystem; Advanced Alarm Management System; Real-time and Historical Trending; Communications Front-end Processor; Historical Information System and Data Archiving; Historical Recording System; Calculation & Scripting Subsystem; Disturbance Data Collection; Load Shed and Restoration; Spinning Reserve; Short-Term Load Forecasting; Network Security Analysis; Operator Training Simulator; Equipment Outage Scheduler; and Transient Stability Analysis software.

Alba produces more than 971,000 metric tonnes per annum of the highest-grade aluminium, with products including standard and T-ingots, extrusion billets, rolling slab, ingots, and molten aluminium. Around 50 percent of output is supplied to Bahrain's downstream aluminum industry, with the rest exported to regional and international customers in the Middle East, Europe, East and Southeast Asia, Africa, and North America.
