ABB forms Engineered Drives Group

March 5, 2015– ABB formed an Engineered Drives group. “The group will focus on improving ABB’s ability to satisfy, grow and support our existing customer base, new customers and prospects, the District Sales Offices, our Industrial, Water and HVAC team,” according to Cliff Cole, Local Product Group Manager, Low Power AC Drives, USA.

Engineered Drives - often called “configured” drives - will facilitate the design and production of custom configurations of low voltage drives that can’t be found in a standard price book; these drives often require special hardware, enclosures and/or software.

Initially, the new team will focus on Low Power AC and High Power Drives for engineered drives customer solutions. The core responsibilities include:

  • Engineering support for in-house production ramp-ups and ramp-downs;
  • Development Engineering for new engineered products built at ABB’s New Berlin production facility; and
  • Sustaining and compliance engineering for products built in New Berlin (future).

Chris Rian will lead the team as Director of Engineered Drives, and the Engineered Drives group’s new physical location will be located at the drives headquarters offices in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

ABB is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 145,000 people.
