ExxonMobil/The Open Group Continue Push for Open Process Control Architecture

By Bill Lydon, Editor, Automation.com

As a follow-on to ExxonMobil’s Industry Day, and their push to create specifications and standards for an, open, secure, and interoperable process control architecture, the Open Group hosted a webinar so that those interested companies, who could not attend the June 27 event in Houston, to join the conversation. Many are doing so enthusiastically. An undisclosed number of end-user companies have already joined The Open Group in this push and the members will be announced at the first formal meeting in November.  The major benefit of the webinar was a more descriptive presentation on the success of the FACE initiative, which illustrated a model example for moving forward to create the secure and open environment for process control architecture.  Due to this enthusiasm, ExxonMobil and The Open Group are following up with an 2nd Industry Day for End Users in late August near Philadelphia.

Dennnis Stevens of Lockheed Martin, and also in a non-fiduciary role as elected Future Airborne Computing Environment (FACE) Consortium Business Working Group (BWG) Chairman, will again describe how the FACE initiative achieved open, secure, and interoperable command and control architecture in defense and avionics.

The 2nd Industry Day meeting is being planned for August 23rd and will be followed up with the first member meeting, planned for November 15-17 in San Francisco, CA (which is the also same week as the annual AICHE conference, also in San Francisco). More details on both of these events will be forthcoming from The Open Group.  If you have interest in membership, please reach out to either of these individuals, who can help answer your questions and get membership agreements in place:
