Hilscher announces participation in IIC Time Sensitive Networking testbed

May 3, 2017 - Hilscher announced participation in the IIC TSN testbed at Hannover Messe 2017.

Hilscher as IIC member joined the Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) Testbed in March 2017. The target is to offer TSN as firmware upgrade to the users of netX technologies. Hilscher developed a firmware upgrade for TSN which can turn a standard real-time ethernet device into a TSN enabled device.

A first successful test has been passed at the most recent plugfest, which took place March 16-17 near Frankfurt, Germany. A laser sensor from SICK AG holding a netX51 chip inside for PROFINET Communication was integrated into the real-time ethernet communication of the TSN testbed.

Then family of netX network controllers are used in a range of applications and device families around the globe. The key values of TSN based protocols can therefore be brought to the industrial OEMs. Thus, the participation in the IIC testbed is an essential step forward for Hilscher to demonstrate leadership also in the future upcoming communication technologies.

The testbed in Europe, established at Bosch Rexroth development site for IoT related control and communication solutions in Erbach, successfully demonstrated:

  • Synchronizing devices to a common, precise sense of time delivered over the network
  • Establishing TSN flows between various vendors
  • Communicating input/output traffic via TSN flows
  • Demonstrating TSN’s ability to protect critical flows from high-bandwidth traffic
