Description

Due to the variation in dynamics within an electric power system, regional utility companies must study the network in order to manage the network stability in addition to providing accurate feedback to the regulator and federal authorities. The master-plan is the key element for any energy plan which details the scenario for supply and generation expansion plan. Going forward, diversification and distribution of the generation mix, including a larger percentage of renewable and nuclear sources, could impact reliability of traditional electricity delivery.

In order to achieve a stable integrated electricity network, all power companies must consistently employ best practice network performance methodologies to achieve optimal resilience and a future-proof grid. The asset management strategy ensures the asset is built to resist, whilst maintenance methodologies ensure system integrity through the implementation of selected standards. Power system analysis tools achieve reliability in the current network, whilst helping to create a future-proof system that can meet upcoming demand from bulk customers and domestic consumers.

To achieve higher levels of customer service and meet regulatory standards, all incidents or faults must be quickly identified, isolated and repaired or replaced. In addition, price controls incentivise power companies to improve quality of customer service whilst reducing costs. A number of power system analysis studies are employed by Network Management, Planning and Operations departments including: incident reporting, power system stability study, protection coordination study and load testing analysis.
