MTConnect Institute adds devices to MTConnect Standard
November 7, 2014 - The MTConnect Institute released MTConnect standard version 1.3.0. The MTConnect standard is an open-source communication standard for interoperability of manufacturing equipment and devices. This version provides significant features, which include inter-device connectivity to enable machine-to-machine communication, additional data items for equipment and devices, as well as improvement to readability of the standard documents. With this release, the MTConnect Institute also launches the MTConnect User Portal, a community site for implementation best practices and shared experiences about implementation of the standard located at www.MTCup.org.
“The addition of version 1.3.0 of the MTConnect standard is a huge step forward for manufacturing and MTConnect. With 1.3.0, we can expect a new level of innovation and capabilities from manufacturing software vendors because of the ease of access to shop floor data MTConnect affords the industry,” said Courtney Hill, President and Chairman of the MTConnect Institute Board.
MTConnect Institute is an organization that develops and provides an open standard intended to foster greater interoperability between manufacturing controls, devices and software applications by publishing data over networks. The standard offers a solution to the exchange of data from shop floor devices to higher level systems. MTConnect.org is where information on MTConnect standard, educational articles, training and MTConnect-enabled products can be found. MTConnectForum.com is the site for questions and answers on all things MTConnect.
MTConnect is an open, royalty-free, secure standard that provides a common transport and format for all manufacturing data from all devices. It enables interoperability, as well as reduces the complexity and increases the value that can be delivered by software applications.
MTConnect User Portal is a community portal providing information for implementation best practices and to share experiences for connecting devices on the shop floor.
The MTConnect Institute is a not-for-profit 501(c)(6) organization established to further the development and adoption of the MTConnect standard. The organization is a subsidiary of AMT—The Association For Manufacturing Technology and includes Board of Trustees, Technical Steering Committee, and Technical Advisory Group (TAG), which is comprised of various working groups to further the standard in specific technology areas. Any company or organization can become a member of the Institute. Membership is free.
