Toellner Systems announces Automated Bulk Rod Feeder
This particular system was specifically designed to hold 1,500 4.5 mm dia x 690 mm long, horizontal, bent raw rods in a part hopper (different hopper sizes available on request). The rod feeder has three very tough stainless carbon steel-belted conveyors that rotate clockwise, parallel to each other. Each conveyors steel belt has deep grooves that separate the rods as they slide into the load nest, one by one, before passing them to the rod straightener, ending the automation process.
These machines are built using rugged steel and are made extremely tough to last; they incorporate top-quality industry standard parts, including an Allen Bradley PLC unit and a part queue system with a max high/low switch. The units run off standard 110 VAC. They are designed for speed, but also with complete safety in mind; they are fully guarded and come with all modern safety features.

We had a client call us and explain that they were hand feeding bent steel nitride-treated bars, one at a time, into a rod straightener, which was not only a very slow process, it also took a full-time person to do this operation very unproductive. stated Dennis Toellner, President of Toellner Systems, Inc. Our client asked us to design an automated solution to their current situation, which we took right to our Research and Development department. Not only did we design and develop a fully automated feeder, we built the hopper to hold up to 1,500 bars at a time, feeding the straightener a rod every 3 seconds, which is approximately 2.5 million bars per year!
