UEI releases High Speed Fiberoptic Interface for DAQ system
In addition to dramatically extending the range of the PowerDNA interface, fiber has the advantage of being virtually immune to all forms of electromagnetic interference. This makes it ideal in high noise environments such as factory floors, HVAC installations and power plants. The fiber link also offers virtually infinite electrical isolation between the host computer and the I/O Cube. This makes it the perfect communications link in applications where the host computer and I/O system may be on different legs of the power grid, where ground leakage current may compromise measurement accuracy, or where lightning strikes are a realistic possibility.
The fiber interface development was driven by requests from our customers, according to UEI President Shaun Miller, We have had requests for PowerDNA Cubes that will function two miles below the ocean surface, over a five mile grid in the dessert, and up a 2000 meter mountain. Of course, we have also had requests for more common applications where I/O Cubes need to be installed on the opposite ends of a production line.

About the PowerDNA Cube
PowerDNA (Distributed Networked Automation) - is a compact (4 x 4 x 4 or 4 x 4 x 6) Ethernet based data acquisition and control device. Each PowerDNA Cube consists of a core module (that includes the processor and network interface) along with three or six open I/O slots or layers. Users configure their systems by selecting appropriate I/O boards from UEIs extensive offering of analog input (up to 24-bit), analog output , digital I/O, counter/timer, CAN bus interface, and multi-port RS-485 and RS-232 boards. Up to 150 analog or 288 digital I/O channels may be installed in a 4 x 4 x 6 Cube!
Founded in 1990, UEI is a leader in the computer based data acquisition and control industry. Serving customers world-wide, UEI products based upon PCI, PXI, ISA and Ethernet interfaces offer unequaled performance as well as flexibility. We are committed to providing the highest quality hardware, software and services, enabling engineers and scientists to interface data-acquisition and control hardware to the real world. Through our state-of-the-art technologies we serve the needs of individual researchers and developers as well as OEMs.
