AAEON announces AAEON UP Core computing board at Embedded World 2017

March 24, 2017 - AAEON, the designer and manufacturer of advanced industrial and embedded computing platforms, announced a new member to the UP board series at a press conference at Embedded World 2017 in Nurnberg, Germany on Wednesday. The AAEON UP Core is a board with 64 bit, 1.92GHz Intel Atom x5 Z8350 Processors (codename Cherry Trail). The on-board GPU is the Intel Gen 8 HD 400 with 12 Execution Units for up to 500MHz delivering 3D graphics.

The AAEON UP Core is equipped with  up to 4GB DDR3L RAM and  up to 64GB eMMC. With a 100-pin docking connector, the UP Core provides the freedom for professional and hobbyist makers to build up their carrier board. There are an array of additional interfaces available including 2x USB2.0, 1x UART header, 1x USB 3.0, WiFi, Bluetooth, 1x DSI/eDP port, 2x Camera (MIPI-CSI), 1x HMDI, and RTC.

The UP Core security features include Intel AES New Instructions and Intel Identity Protection Technology needed for professional IoT applications. The UP Core enables extensive operation system flexibility in fully supporting Android 6 Marshmallow, Microsoft Windows 10, in addition to extensive and support for Linux through the thriving UP Community.

In addition to introducing the UP Core, AAEON announced the AAEON All-in-a-box LoRa Gateway & Network Server powered by The Things Industries services to great fanfare and acclaim. The LoRa Gateway and Network Server is a solution providing secure, scalable and reliable LoRa routing for valuable IoT data.

The AAEON UP Connect LoRa is the first solution of AAEON IoT LoRa portfolio and it is based on UP board, the embedded board fuelled by Intel Quad Core ATOM x5-Z8350 CPU, and IMST LoRa Radio concentrator. Integration with The Things Industries network server provides a total solution with Gateway & Device Management, Data Management and Representation, with a high grade of security incorporating encryption from sensor to application without intermediate decryption.

Aeon also announced Spring 2017 availability of the AAEON UP IRQF Starter Kit for IoT developers, in addition to a series of supporting workshops. The starter kit and workshops will enable developers to rapidly prototype and develop wireless IoT products with a Microsoft Azure backend. Supported sensors will include temperature, light intensity, voltage adjustment via potentiometer, relay kits, and control kits. The wireless IoT products will be secured using the AES-128 encryption features of the version 4.0 IRQF operating system.

Additionally, AAEON demonstrated a number of Smart Home IoT home automation features in conjunction with the ubiworx IoT software framework for embedded systems. The pairing of AAEON UP Board with the ubiworx framework promise to deliver a more secure, convenient and comfortable living space with a minimum of cost and ease.

Intelligent Digital Signage also featured as a result of the ongoing collaboration with beabloo. Featuring machine vision, the digital signage solution is capable of capturing biometric data, in addition to Opportunity to See, and Dwell Time data for analytics and marketing campaigns.
