JAI adds CoaXPress and USB3 Vision interfaces to cameras

January 15, 2015 – JAI added two interface options to its 20-megapixel CMOS camera family. The Spark Series SP-20000 cameras have previously only been available with a power-over-Mini-Camera-Link interface. The four new models – two monochrome and two color – give users a choice of a dual-channel CoaXPress interface at 30 frames per second, or a single USB3 Vision interface running at 16 frames per second.
All of the SP-20000 cameras incorporate the CMOSIS CMV20000 imager, offering full frame resolution of 5120 x 3840 pixels. For the two CoaXPress models (SP-20000M-CXP2 and SP-20000C-CXP2), power can be supplied through the CoaXPress interface or can be provided via the separate 12-pin connector. The two USB3 Vision models (SP-20000M-USB and SP-20000C-USB) require power to be supplied via the 12-pin connector.
The cameras leverage CMOSIS' 8-transistor (8T) pixel architecture to implement true correlated double sampling (CDS) for outstanding image quality with the highest degree of pixel uniformity. An industry-leading 1:50000 parasitic light sensitivity ratio minimizes global shutter leakage for clean images with sharp contrast. Additional in-camera correction routines have been included to provide significant reductions in pattern noise over previous generations of CMOS cameras.
On monochrome models, 8-bit and 10-bit output is supported, as well as 1x2, 2x1, and 2x2 binning modes. All color models support 8-bit and 10-bit raw Bayer output, and the CoaXPress models also support 24-bit RGB output at up to 15 fps when a dual-channel configuration is utilized.
The combination of speed and resolution makes the SP-20000 ideal for examining flat panel displays, printed circuit boards, and many other applications where detailed inspections are required across a wide area. In addition, the cameras are well-suited to persistent surveillance, border security, aerial mapping, and other outdoor applications, thanks to an automatic level control (ALC) function linking shutter and gain for best exposures under changing light conditions; a built-in dual-slope high dynamic range mode for high contrast imaging situations (monochrome models only); and an extended operating range of -45°C to +70°C, enabling the cameras to handle a variety of harsh temperature environments.
The SP-20000 has region-of-interest (ROI) capabilities including multiple ROI’s in a single image to provide image capture flexibility with higher frame rates.
The SP-20000 accepts standard F-mount lenses. Overall dimensions are 62 x 62 x 84.5 mm (HxWxL).
