Synapticon announces SOMANET IFM Drive DC1000 and REM 16MT rotary encoder

March 13, 2017 - At this year's Embedded World (14 - 16 March in Nuremberg), Synapticon GmbH will present in hall A3 at booth 421 several products and solutions for embedded robotics. In particular, the focus is on drive and control technology for industrial robots, driverless transport systems (DTS) and consumer robots.

The SOMANET modules are a central component of the Synapticon GmbH portfolio. These are hardware and software components for the realization of robotic control systems.

One such drive module is the SOMANET IFM Drive DC1000. It has four phases and can thus also control brakes in addition to controlling the engine. The module supports up to three feedback systems for position and torque and operates in the low voltage range up to 60 volts. The DC1000 is compatible with PMSM, BLDC, DC brush motors and step motors. Synapticon's model- predictive, field-oriented control regulates motors via the power electronics. Thanks to its specification, the module is suited for collaborative robotic arms and micro robotics.

An important extension of the SOMANET platform is a new rotary encoder from Synapticon. The REM 16MT is an absolute magnetic rotary encoder. The REM 16MT measures the axis angles with a precision of 16 bits and counts axis revolutions up to 12 bits. Since the energy can be supplied by its own magnetic field by means of Energy Harvesting, the encoder is self-sufficient when the power supply is switched off and nevertheless detects position changes at any time. In robotics, this encoder can be used to replace expensive optical systems which are usually supplied with expensive battery buffers.

The spectrum of engineering services encompasses the technological core of the Synapticon platform, the SOMANET system-on-chips, the customer-specific adaptation and expansion of software, individual and integrated modular design, but also the design and selection of complete drive solutions, including engine, transmission and mechanical structure.
