ABB announces DCS800-EP Panel Drive

By: ABB
08 March, 2010
Available up to 150 HP, the drive is a pre-engineered solution with all required peripheral components included on a space-efficient back panel.

March 8, 2010 – The DCS800-EP Panel Drive is a pre-engineered solution. All required peripheral components are included on a space-efficient back panel, ready to be mounted into an industrial enclosure, saving time of procuring, mounting and wiring individual system components. The DCS800-EP is an excellent retrofit drive and is especially well suited for Reliance Electric FlexPak 3000 replacement. These drives are commonly used in the steel and pipe mill industries, and also for extruders and in many other applications. Initially available up to 150 HP, the drive also includes AC and DC fusing, AC contactor, and a control transformer.

It meets UL 508A, with a 65 kA short-circuit current rating (SCCR). The DCS800-EP is pre-wired and pre-tested to make installation and start-up go quickly.

Highlights

* Space-efficient multilevel panel * Easy tool access to internal components * Pre-wired, pre-tested solution for smooth start-ups * Greatly simplifies the procurement process * Module can be replaced, without replacing the entire panel * Integral ABB AC contactor * UL Listed with 65 kA SCCR

Voltage and Power Range

The DCS800-EP panel drives are available, initially, from 10 - 150 HP at 460 Vac (5 to 60 HP at 230 Vac). Drives up to 600 HP will be available at a later date. All drives carry a heavy-duty overload rating, allowing 150 percent overload for 60 seconds.

Wide range of options

The panel drive offers a wide range of options. It can be ordered with or without a main circuit breaker and blower motor contactor and overload. It also offers an integral line reactor right inside the package, when one is required. And the drive can be ordered without the AC contactor for those occasions when an existing DC contactor can be reused. ABB components have been used whenever possible, and the panels are built right here in the USA.

“The drive includes the same ABB DCS800 power module that customers have become familiar with since 2006,” said product manager Thomas Junger. “A big advantage is that the power module can be replaced without replacing the whole panel.” ABB, Discrete Automation and Motion, Low Voltage Drives, is the world's largest manufacturer of electric motors and drives. In the USA, an integrated channel of sales representatives, distributors, and system integrators allow ABB, New Berlin, Wisconsin, to supply a complete line of energy-efficient electric drives, motors and engineered drive systems to a wide range of industrial and commercial customers.

Products manufactured include AC and DC variable speed drives for electric motors from 1/8th through 135,000 HP, and application-specific drive system solutions to meet diverse customer needs.
