February 17, 2009 – ABB announced today that it has appointed Luis Duran as Business Development Manager for Safety Systems in the Americas region. In his new role, Duran will expand and develop the safety systems market for ABB’s next generation System 800xA High Integrity safety system offering. He will be based in Houston, Texas. “We are delighted to have Luis join the ABB team,” said John Marbry, Vice President, Control Product Sales, Americas region, ABB. “He has a wealth of industry knowledge and experience that will help us to grow our business in this critical market.

He understands the challenges that our customers face and will help promote the bottom-line benefits that System 800xA High Integrity can offer them.” Most recently, Duran was Product Marketing Director for the Safety and Critical Control product line for Invensys (Triconex). Duran holds a Functional Safety Engineer certification from TÜV. In addition, he has an MBA from the Universidad Simon Bolivar Caracas, Venezuela and an Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the same institution. “I am very pleased to have this opportunity to work with the world-class organization at ABB, and share their passion for helping process industry customers improve their operations while maintaining the highest standards of safety,” said Duran.

“I look forward to expanding the market for their leading-edge safety system and demonstrating the tremendous benefits it provides to our customers.” ABB released its latest generation of the System 800xA High Integrity safety system earlier this year. This SIL 3 rated Safety Integrated System (SIS) provides the highest level of integration of safety and control on the market today, and a unique embedded diverse technology architecture that provides superior protection of the process, plant, personnel, and the environment while it optimizes overall process efficiency.
