Dyckerhoff selected ABB's Expert Optimizer Collaborative Production Management software to optimize the raw mills, raw mix, kilns and cement mills at their Göllheim plant.

Baden, Switzerland, June 11, 2008 – ABB won an order to install its Expert Optimizer solution at Dyckerhoff’s Göllheim plant in Germany. The Model Predictive Control (MPC) based Expert Optimizer will be installed to optimize two raw mills, two raw material dryers, the Raw Meal Proportioning, two kilns and coolers, and three cement mills. The scope of supply includes both on site and ABB University classroom training for Dyckerhoff’s engineers. Commissioning is scheduled for September 2008. “The solution is being installed on 12 areas across the process.

This is a very large installation and a measure of Dyckerhoff’s confidence in ABB.” said Sales Engineer for the project, Andrew Wilson. He continued “I’m proud to be working with Dyckerhoff and to be involved with such a large project. I’m looking forward to the installation and to seeing the results that Expert Optimizer will bring to the plant”. Expert Optimizer is advanced process control software, which achieves continuous process optimization.

Part of ABB’s Collaborative Production Management suite, it coordinates the optimal running parameters from the different parts of the process and immediately detects deviations among the different parts of the operation. By expertly applying MPC, Expert Optimizer is able to stabilize and then optimize the process which helps plant management to reach profitability and sustainability goals. In February 2008 Expert Optimizer was awarded the Global Fuels Award for ‘Most innovative technology for electrical energy efficiency.’ Ruediger Matheis, the Production Manager at Göllheim who is responsible for the Expert Optimizer project there said “A similar solution from ABB is installed and running at Dyckerhoff’s Deuna plant. Dyckerhoff and ABB have been really pleased with the results there.

I’m looking forward to the same type of benefits coming from the Göllheim installation”. ABB's suite of Collaborative Production Management and products, which includes Expert Optimizer, Knowledge Manager and SpectraFlow provide productivity improvements to process automation companies. ABB is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 110,000 people.
