APC Announces UPS that Delivers Single Phase output from Three-Phase Input power
AIS 3100 to meets the international need for an off-the-shelf UPS that is preconfigured with three-phase input power and single-phase output power. This design accommodates three-phase power available in factories while providing the single-phase power needed to run industrial computers, manufacturing controls, PLCs and various systems on the factory floor. It eliminates the need for external transformers.

AIS 3100 is first model to provide three phase input - single phase output as preconfigured UPS for industrial plant automation systems

HANNOVER, Germany –April 24, 2006 – American Power Conversion announced the release of the AIS® 3100, an uninterruptible power supply for harsh industrial environments where industrial computers, process controllers, and distributed control systems require high reliability. APC’s Industrial Systems developed the AIS 3100 to meet the international need for an off-the-shelf UPS that is preconfigured with three-phase input power and single-phase output power. This design accommodates the prevalent three-phase power available in factories while providing the single-phase power needed to run industrial computers, manufacturing controls, PLCs and various systems on the factory floor.

The AIS 3100’s single tall chassis eliminates the need for external transformers, which saves space and yields design economies. Previously, UPS systems for industrial environments often required customization and had to be purchased via time-consuming special order procedures. The AIS 3100 uses a pre-tested, integrated approach that makes it both higher in reliability and ready to ship from stock. This allows plant and facilities managers to deploy the unit faster, and have greater confidence in uninterrupted operations. The AIS 3100 will be available in 20-40 KVA sizes, and typically derive input power from a 400 volt three-phase circuit.

The 3100 is ideal for all kind of industrial plant automation systems used in pharmaceutical plants, chemical plants, food and beverage plants, and other industrial facilities. “This announcement is an example of listening to the customer and delivering relevant, affordable, and highly reliable products,” said Dieter Brunner, managing director of APC’s Industrial Systems. “Our Industrial Systems team designed the AIS 3100 after identifying a real need that was not being met by other products in the market.”The AIS 3100 features a modern, thick steel plate cabinet that is rugged and sleek. The factory-installed batteries are hot-swappable and the air filters are user-replaceable, so the AIS 3100 is easy to maintain.

The AIS 3100 adds a single-phase output option to APC’s AIS Series, and thereby complements the previously announced three-phase AIS 3000 and AIS 5000 UPS systems. The estimated resale price of the AIS 3100 20 KVA starts at 10600 euros.
