ARC Advisory Group is calling for those working in industrial manufacturing or operations to respond to the 2022 MES/MOM Manufacturing Operations Adoption Survey, which is designed to indicate and benchmark the maturity of respondents’ MES/MOM technology regarding digital transformation. Industrial manufacturers are entering a time when new digital technologies have the potential to augment processes to an unprecedented degree. Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) are technologies that play a major role in manufacturing and operations’ digital transformation. In the survey, the two terms will be considered synonymous.

MES and MOM include functionality that is embedded or integrated into other advanced digital technologies, such as Machine Learning; Artificial Intelligence; Augmented and Virtual Reality; robotics; digital twins; new Integration Platforms that use cybersecurity and standards; edge; Cloud and other IIoT-enabled sensors. Automation professionals can take the 2022 MES/MOM Manufacturing Operations Adoption Survey now. The ARC issued a similar survey in 2020 , and most respondents to that survey worked in the chemical, metal, oil & gas, pharmaceutical & biotech, pulp & paper, and food & beverages industries.

For that survey, ARC developed a multi-level digital transformation maturity model so users can identify where they are in their digital transformation journeys compared to similar organizations. The levels are: Exploring, Limited, Significant and Proficient. Survey participants identified their MES digital Transformation Maturity Levels at their worst-performing plant, an average-performing plant, and their best-performing plant. In the chart above, notice that about 75% of respondents indicated that their worst-performing plants fell into the Exploratory or Limited category. 40% of respondents said their average-performing plants implemented MES applications on a limited basis.

More than half of survey respondents indicated their best-performing plants had reached a Significant or Proficient level. Take the 2022 survey here. Once a person takes the survey, he or she should be able to see the results instantly.
