Sept. 17, 2025 – AutomationDirect added new multi-turn, absolute encoders from Lika Electronic that use Ethernet or serial communication to provide position and velocity information. With models available for EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, Modbus TCP, or Modbus RTU, these "comms encoders" simplify wiring and reduce processing overhead, while providing high-resolution, non-volatile tracking (without batteries or capacitors). These encoders can report accurate position info on power up (without homing) and they can even track movements that occur when the power is off. All models offer programmable resolutions up to 8192 pulses per revolution (13-bit).
As multi-turn devices, they also have programmable "turns" up to 16384 turns (14-bit). Options include 3/8" solid or 15mm hollow shaft models, with hollow shaft reducers to fit 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 11mm, 12mm, 1/4", 3/8" or 1/2" shafts. All models have a splash proof (IP65) rating. The Lika Electronic Modbus RTU Configuration Software is provided (free download) to easily program and configure the Modbus RTU encoders. It allows the user to set working parameters and monitor device functionality.
