AxissComm to Introduce MeterPod, New Remote Data Acquisition Device at ISA Show

20 September, 2005
1 min read

Louisville, KY. The MeterPod, scheduled to be introduced at the October ISA Show in Chicago, replaces analog bag phones that investor-owned utilities will change by September, 2007, according to an FCC sunset ruling. This MeterPod, designed by AxissComm, LLC, is an intelligent, data acquisition controller with cellular and other wireless protocols for remote devices.

  • The MeterPod™ can modify, compress, and encrypt messages between a host system and the local device.
  • The MeterPod will read remote meters and devices and transmit the data through its cellular or wireless modem to a central source.

This wireless technology replaces existing technology being mandated into extinction by the FCC, effective September 2007.

Money Savings for Utility Companies

Current technology ranges from physical meter reading by a person, to meter reading by a vehicle that passes the vicinity of the meter, to products that transmits data via analog modems.

These processes and products are laden with cost inefficiencies and obsolescence.

The MeterPod™ will save utilities money, improve the efficiency and timeliness of the data.

The remote telemetry market encompasses a broad spectrum of applications and opportunities, including cellular bag phone replacement (BPR), SCADA, remote device monitoring and control.

An FCC ruling in 2002 modified Sections 22.901 and 22.933 of the FCC Rules to allow for carriers of analog cellular networks to sunset analog cellular networks by 4th quarter 2007.

The MeterPod Advantage

The intelligent MeterPod gateway installs onto existing metering and monitoring equipment and provides a wireless communications link from the remote equipment being monitored or controlled to the host computer or program tracking or controlling the device.

The MeterPod provides clear advantages over existing remote telemetry equipment:1.

Supports wireless communications protocols, including CDMA, GSM, and GPRS standards and redundant connections.2.

Easy installation and configuration by regular maintenance personnel via its built in keyboard and LCD display3.

Provides control capabilities beyond the remote device This non-real time, patent-pending, processing capability is the highlight of the MeterPod™.
