Baumüller adds EtherCAT to bmaXX 3422 drive
The bmaXX 3422 drive is available with EtherCAT for controlling motors up to 12.5 kVA. It has cycle times of 250 µs over EtherCAT, tunneling of standard Ethernet TCP/IP packets through to the servo drive and seamless integration into the ProMaster Engineering Framework.

Powerful options for b maXX 3400March 19, 2007 - Nuremberg. The b maXX 3422 with a motor-side rated output current of 20 A. has been designed for power ratings of up to approx. 12.5 kVA.

Consequently, it can typically be used to operate motors with a rated power of approx. 8 kW.Up to now, the devices within the b maXX 3400 range have only been available with one type of fieldbus system: CANopen. As of the second quarter of 2007, all controllers will also be available with EtherCAT.

Functionalities that are worth a special mention are: Cycle times of 250 µs over EtherCAT, tunneling of standard Ethernet TCP/IP packets through to the servo drive and, above all, seamless integration into the ProMaster Engineering Framework. All members of the b maXX series (which obviously includes the b maXX 3400) are configured and operated via the ProMaster Engineering Framework. The ProMaster Engineering Framework from Baumüller enables the user to create projects and applications easily using intuitive drag & drop functionality. Simple parameterization and configuration consistently replace complicated programming throughout all machine levels from what is of course an engineer’s perspective.New option: The b maXX 3400 is now also available with a cam disk function.

The cam disk has up to 512 interpolation points. As a result, the cam disks can be simulated and calculated directly in the drive. This reduces the load on the higher-level machine control system.

Viewed in conjunction with the b maXX 3400 controller’s integrated digital inputs (which can be parameterized as rapid inputs for the purpose of triggering scheduled controller responses within <= 250 µs) and the optionally available incremental encoder emulator, this means that complex motion control tasks can even be performed without a machine control system or without having to connect to one.Now that the number of parameter sets has been increased from four to eight, not only can the b maXX 3400 be used in even more applications, but it is even easier to use in situations that were previously the reserve of the b maXX 4400.Baumüller with its headquarters located in Nuremberg is one of the leading manufacturers of innovative automation and electric drive systems.

About 1,700 employees plan, develop, produce and install complete and intelligent system solutions for mechanical engineering at more than 40 locations spread all over the world: From operation and visualization tools to Motion Control software as per PLCopen, from software modules to controllers, also including converters, electric drives and control cabinets. The Baumüller Reparaturwerk adds to the company’s after-sales service in the area of service and installations. Baumüller is worldwide one of the leading partners in automation for the machine building industry.
