ISA 2012 Automation Week Track: Asset Performance Wednesday, 26 September, 1:30-3:00 pm, Room 204C Marion Skerrette Neal & Massy Wood Group This session title sounds good doesn’t it? But what does it really mean? There are many business models tailored for excellence, but few that speak specifically to the industry. I may be a manager, but how well do I understand the operations and its technical aspects? What is important to the operations, and how can I create value there? I may be an engineer or technician, but could I have overlooked some basic factors that could improve the way in which things are done?

This presentation seeks to address those questions, but not in a rocket science kind of way, but more in a basic approach that will spark thinking into overall improvement with benefits to management and technical personnel to create optimization. But what really is optimization? Optimization is basically making something as effective as possible. We all know that improvement can be hindered by finances, ignorance, complacency, and even egos, but that may not be able to hinder ideas that will outweigh it with benefits. Technology is available in abundance, so why not use it to your advantage? This presentation seeks to examine areas of the business such as loop tuning, plant monitoring, facility management, planning, HSE, and alternate routes.

The attendee should take away applicable points to their business nature and create a view on optimization that they may not have considered before.
