ClassPack is for educators who cannot purchase multiple robots. By using ClassPack, students can write robotics code that will run in simulation and on a real robot.

Redmond, WA – April 7, 2008 – CoroWare released a community technology preview (CTP) version of the CoroWare ClassPack for Microsoft Robotics Studio (ClassPack), a simulation software package for its CoroBot mobile robot. The physics-based mobile robot simulation runs within Microsoft Robotics Studio and supports nearly all of the features of the real CoroBot model CB-WA. ClassPack is designed for educators who want to put a robot in the hands of every student, but cannot purchase multiple physical robots. By using the CoroWare ClassPack simulator, students can write robotics code that will run both in simulation and on a real CoroBot. “The great benefit of using ClassPack is that researchers and students can experiment with a lower-cost version of CoroBot in the simulation environment.

Once the software has been developed it can easily be transferred to a physical CoroBot,” said Jon Mandrell, Director of CoroWare’s Robotics and Automation group. “A classroom can be equipped with simulated CoroBots for every student and one or two shared CoroBots that can be checked out for use.”The creation of ClassPack evolved from CoroWare’s vision to provide capable, expandable and affordable robotics development solutions to university, corporate and homeland security research and development communities. “We are excited to see CoroWare expand its line of products that are designed for Microsoft Robotics Studio,” said Tandy Trower, general manager for the Microsoft Robotics Group.

“Offering classroom instructors the option of using simulated CoroBots will help drive the adoption of robotics at universities and colleges worldwide.”
