New SVME/DMV-682 FireBlade is first 24x1GbE + 2x10GbE VME Board LEESBURG, VA – July 5, 2006 -- Enabling the vision of networked defense platforms within the Global Information Grid (GIG), Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing has announced the embedded military and defense industry's densest 6U VME64x SVME/DMV-682 FireBlade Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) multilayer switch. Used to architect secure high performance IPv4/v6 Intra-Platform Networks (IPNs), the SVME/DMV-682 can also be used to cost-effectively transform legacy 'bus-based' VME systems into high performance 'network-ready' switched system. The SVME/DMV-682 FireBlade provides wirespeed performance, delivering 24x1GbE ports and 2x10GbE ports in a single VME slot.
Each of the 24 1GbE interfaces can individually auto-negotiate 10/100/1000 Mbps operation in a non-blocking manner, while the card's two (2) 10 GbE ports can be used for architecting a high performance 10G platform backbone, a redundant fail-over network, or can be used as an inter-switch stacking solution that can scale to higher port counts for larger systems. Alternatively, the VME-682 FireBlade can be scaled down to provide lower port count combinations for smaller systems. The SVME/DMV-682 FireBlade is available in 12/20/24 GbE port counts. Four (4) of the FireBlade's GbE ports can optionally be configured as Fast Ethernet (10BaseT/100BaseTX) to the rear panel, GbE Ethernet (10BaseT/100BaseTX/1000BaseT) to the front panel, or optical fiber (1000BaseSX) to the front.
Each version of the FireBlade is available in either fully managed or unmanaged versions. "One of the great advantages of the SVME/DMV-682 FireBlade is its backwards compatibility with our flagship VME-680 SwitchBlade," said Lynn Patterson, vice president and general manager of Modular Solutions, Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing. "Existing customers that want to take advantage of the newer features of FireBlade, such as the 10GbE stacking links, wirespeed IPv4/v6 support, and enhanced security features, now have a smooth upgrade path due to its pin-compatibility with the VME-680." FireBlade's switched Gigabit Ethernet architecture enables system designers to easily inter-connect boxes, compute blades, and compute nodes within platforms.
It's ideal for deploying COTS-based Gigabit Ethernet switching in harsh environments. The SVME/DMV-682 FireBlade is available in both air-cooled and conduction-cooled configurations. FireBlade's powerful set of network management interfaces includes CLI, Telnet, SNMP and Web for easy configuration and network management. Additionally, complete layer 2 switching, layer 3 routing, Quality of Service (QoS), IP multicasting and security software over either IPv4 or IPv6, extensive BIT capability, and secure memory erase are supported to provide a feature rich switching solution that can support the simplest to the most complex network connections.
The SVME/DMV-682 complements Curtiss-Wright's wide range of Single Board Computers, Digital Signal Processors, Graphics and Communications and IO products. Pricing for the SVME/DMV-682 starts at $7,999 USD with availability in Q4 of 2006.
