Dotworkz announces Zarlink security camera enclosure
Zarlink module provides a standard single fiber optic ST connector to an RJ-45 Ethernet output, simplifying installation and expansion of IP video systems.

September 4, 2008 -- Dotworkz announced the first ever IP camera enclosure that fully integrates the Zarlink copper-to-fiber converter module. Designed for camera-side deployment, the Zarlink module adapts a standard single fiber optic ST connector to an RJ-45 Ethernet output, simplifying installation and expansion of IP video systems by providing an extended point-to-point connection of up to 2,000 meters over single-stranded multimode optical fiber. In comparison, the reach of coaxial cable is limited to 300 meters, while twisted-pair copper cabling is restricted to about 100 meters.About the size of a deck of cards, the Zarlink module is mounted within the D2 to completely protect it from extreme environmental factors or vandalism.

It operates on standard 12 VDC or optional 24 VDC power, using less than 2 watts per module. The use of fiber in video surveillance applications eliminates the need for multiple switches and long runs of expensive analog shielded copper cables. Fiber cable also adds security, as it is not vulnerable to tapping or prone to weather corrosion, and supports the evolution towards mega-pixel camera deployments. The Dotworkz D2 is the security industry's most advanced camera protection system. Currently deployed in areas as diverse as Iraq's "Green Zone" and the summit of the Park City Mountain ski area, the D2 can be customized to withstand extreme temperatures ranging from -40° F to +155° F with the Dotworkz CoolDome or Ring-of-Fire climate systems.

Made from impact-resistant polycarbonate thermalplastic, the D2 will not rust or corrode, plus it is IP66 rated against dust, water and salt-water air. D2's are compatible with IP and analog PTZ cameras offered by Axis, Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba and other major manufacturers." As video security traffic is increasingly terminated in data centers built on optical fiber architecture, it is critical that installers have the plug-and-play capability to seamlessly convert IP cameras designed for copper cabling to high-speed, more secure fiber," explained Will Ferris, President of Dotworkz. "With our new Zarlink-equipped D2, this process is achieved without costly rewiring, connections or reconfigurations.

Moreover, it is completely transparent to the cameras, servers and control room equipment."
