Intergraph’s INtools® Software Efficiently Configures Emerson’s DeltaV™ Automation System for Faster Project and Plant Startup
AUSTIN, TEXAS (February 17, 2004) – Emerson Process Management and the Process, Power & Offshore division of Intergraph Corporation today jointly announced the signing of a marketing and supply agreement. Under terms of the contract, Intergraph will supply its INtools® lifecycle instrumentation engineering software to Emerson for distribution to its customers through DeltaV™ digital automation system implementations. The DeltaV system is a key component in powering Emerson’s PlantWeb® digital plant architecture to reduce user’s capital and operations costs.
The DeltaV v7.3 ( www.EasyDeltaV.com ) system and INtools 6.0 lifecycle instrumentation engineering software are integrated and span both conventional and bus I/O systems.
The INtools ( ppo.intergraph.com/ppo/intools ) automated configuration speeds project execution, reduces engineering effort, eliminates rekeying I/O configuration data and improves accuracy – helping engineers get the DeltaV system online faster. Once the process control system is online, plant personnel keep their INtools database consistent with the DeltaV system, facilitating maintenance, expansions, turnarounds and related activities.
Combination Offers Straightforward Process
The DeltaV and INtools combination offers a straightforward process for configuring a DeltaV system. Users first download DeltaV I/O card specifications from a dedicated Emerson Web site into INtools. Thus, users always have access to the latest information. The download populates INtools with the definitions for DeltaV I/O card types and FOUNDATION™ Fieldbus devices. Next, engineers use INtools for system design, including assigning control system tags to I/O channels, creating loops and wiring connections and performing related tasks.
I/O card and device data relevant to the DeltaV system is then exported. No user manipulation of data is necessary. The DeltaV system provides a reconciliation utility to validate the INtools data before importing into the DeltaV database. DeltaV configuration in the operating plant is easily modified for ongoing engineering and expansion, making automation documentation more complete, accurate and current. For engineering groups designing DeltaV systems, the INtools integration eliminates re-keying data and provides a verified and accurate data repository ready for handover to the plant owner.
Meeting Customer Business Goals
Duncan Schleiss, vice president of marketing for the process systems business of Emerson Process Management, said, “For plant owner-operators, the Emerson and Intergraph agreement provides an ideal foundation to further capitalize on their DeltaV investment by strengthening it with Intergraph INtools. By virtue of the agreement, Intergraph is also now a member of the Emerson Process Management Alliance Program.” “The Emerson and Intergraph agreement expands automation opportunities to a rapidly-growing, mutual customer base,” said Ben Eazzetta, chief operating officer, Intergraph Process, Power & Offshore. “It makes sense for our common customers to compress schedules and reduce engineering effort by reusing instrumentation information.
Together, Emerson and Intergraph are helping customers meet business goals by getting projects and plants online sooner.” Russ Novak, research director, ARC Advisory Services, said, “Because plant automation represents the largest single capital expense and a major maintenance cost, it makes sense for two technology leaders to work together to shorten time to ROI on instrumentation and control. The resulting product integration bodes well not only for jump-starting projects but also for long term life cycle support tasks that have an even greater influence on reducing the total cost of ownership. The agreement also can potentially increase the market presence and revenues of both Intergraph and Emerson.”
DeltaV System and INtools: Achieving Industry Firsts
Part of the field-proven PlantWeb® architecture, Emerson’s DeltaV system is the first fully digital automation system. From a suite of digital busses and embedded advanced control to enterprise integration and optimization, the DeltaV system delivers precision control and predictive maintenance. The DeltaV system is scalable in both size and function, features a single architecture supported by hardware and software and integrates with existing control systems.Intergraph INtools software supports engineering, design and documentation for the lifecycle, including instrument indexes, calibration and maintenance, specifications, process data, calculation, wiring, loop drawings, hook-ups and commissioning.
INtools is the first commercial instrumentation software to support fieldbus topologies and is regarded as the de facto standard for instrument engineering worldwide.
