September 19, 2010 - Ethernet Direct supplied Ethernet Switches for a building management applicationlocated in Iceland.Höfdatorg is in a unique location linking the Borgartun financial district with downtown Reykjavik. Being a center of finance and information technology in Iceland, The re-development of the Borgartun area, the Höfðatorg project, will add value and importance to the properties connecting it with old downtown Reykjavik. As the the crown of the Borgartun business district and at the same time a gateway to the old Reykjavik, Höfðatorg will be developed to be a complete community, where business meets culture as well as commerce. The goal for Höfdatorg community is to mix office space with living space.

Offices, shops, restaurants, and various services occupy two-thirds of the Höfdatorg buildings. One-third is for high quality apartments, with sizes up to 250 m2 and stunning mountain and sea views. Plus underground facilities such as parking, and storage, the entire compounds in Höfðatorg community needs powerful Building Management systems to monitor and control the environment within the community. Building Management System is a computer-based control system installed in buildings to control and monitor buildings mechanical and electrical equipment such as ventilation, lighting, power systems, fire systems, and security systems. Data acquisition, non-stop operation, and long-distance transmission are key points considered by the customer.

The customer chose Ethernet Direct HME-623 industrial 8-port managed Ethernet switch with 2 single-mode fiber ports, and HUE-800 industrial unmanaged Ethernet switch. HME-623s are installed serving three floors in the Towers, while HUE-800s are distributed on the floors. HME-623 provides long distance transmission of 30km, allowing the network to be stretched throughout the entire compounds. Its ring redundancy design with less than 300ms recovery time further ensures non-stop operation without any disconnection due to power failure or port break. HUE-800 is a reliable and economical choice for sending data or readings within the buildings such as temperature, carbon dioxide level, and humidity or access logs to the control floor.
