Exele enhances TopView software alarm reports

By: Exele Information Systems, Inc.
28 April, 2008
Enhancements include allowing users to set up and receive automatic, scheduled, alarm summary reports via email.

Exele TopView software has been enhanced so that in addition to automatically sending notifications at the time of an event, users are now able to set-up and receive automatic, scheduled, alarm summary reports via email. For example, alarm reports can be automatically emailed to shift managers at the end of each shift, or other personnel can get email reports listing the alarms that occurred the previous day. Reports can be customized to list alarms by plant area, line, process, or any other user-created category, so that the summary emails only contain alarm information of interest to the recipient.Alarm Reports are summary reports of the alarms that occurred for one or more monitored points over a user-specified period of time.

The Alarm Report output is a readable report or a CSV output that can be saved to a file and/or emailed to one or more recipients. An Alarm Report includes a summary of each item that transitioned into alarm or returned to normal from an alarm condition within the report period. This report information includes:o tag/row that went into alarm o alarm message o start and end time of the alarm condition o acknowledge time of the alarm (if it was acknowledged) o server name, tag name, description, tag group, and alarm UID You can easily schedule the automatic generation of Alarm Reports as "Alarm Report Scheduled Tasks." These scheduled tasks have configurable report start and end times, included Tag Groups, optional output file and optional email recipients.

For email recipients, the report can be included in the email message or as an attachment to the email. The TopView Contact List allows you to organize the email addresses, phone numbers, and pager ID of TopView recipients as 'Contacts'. A notification recipient entered as a Contact field (e.g.

Plant ManageremailWork) is retrieved when an alarm occurs and notification is sent; if TopView is running, you can make changes to a Contact's field values (email, phone, pager ID) and the changes will take effect when the next notification message is sent.Cross-reference configuration reports summarize the notification settings in TopView. These reports display the list of monitored points and the recipients that each point can notify, and the list of recipients and the monitored points that can notify the recipient. The TopView Remote Viewer (desktop) is used to remotely monitor and acknowledge alarms from anywhere on your network. The Remote Viewer is often used in Control Rooms or other operator stations for alarm monitoring and management.

Once you have configured the Remote Viewer connection and options, you can now "lock-down" the configuration (with optional lock-down password) so that Remote Viewer users can use the application but cannot change the settings. In addition, you can prevent the user from exiting the Remote Viewer application unless the correct lock-down password is entered.
