Exida certified the LESV-Flow Sensor meets the functional safety requirements for Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 capability per IEC 61508: 2010.

February 11, 2014 -- exida certified Woodward, Inc.’s Large Electric Sonic Valve (LESV)-Flow Sensor for functional safety, to help ensure that it meets the functional safety requirements for Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 capability per IEC 61508: 2010. The LESV-Flow Sensor will be part of the fuel management system of new large-frame gas turbine engines. "The capabilities of the LESV-Flow Sensor were confirmed through an extensive certification process that included the completion of a Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA),” says Chris O’Brien, exida evaluating assessor.

“Woodward had a very extensive validation testing regime that helped them achieve this high level of functional safety.” The LESV-Flow Sensor is the first Woodward product to be certified to SIL standards by exida. “exida’s technical expertise and understanding of our processes resulted in an outstanding LESV testing regimen,” says Terry Mize, Woodward’s system engineer for gas turbine fuel management systems. “exida’s comprehensive certification will help Woodward customers know that the LESV will perform reliably during the light-off sequence and normal operation of their gas turbines during the life of the system.”
