January 28, 2010 – Honeywell introduced its next generation of variable frequency drives (VFDs). SmartVFD HVAC and BYPASS maximize energy savings in commercial buildings and to operate effectively as a key component of an efficient building. Commercial buildings are the largest consumer of electricity in the United States with much of the electricity being consumed by fans and pumps. VFDs, which control the speed of pumps and fans in commercial heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, can produce substantial energy savings.
SmartVFD HVAC
The SmartVFD HVAC makes installation and commissioning easy for contractors and energy savings achievable for building owners and managers. Key features include:
- An easy-to-use keypad and graphic interface delivers menu-driven programming and monitoring for fast, uniform commissioning.
- Built-in communications with BACnet®, N2 and Modbus translates into a lower total installed cost and reliable communications with the building management system.
- PC software wizards guide commissioning, programming and troubleshooting.
SmartVFD BYPASS
The SmartVFD BYPASS is sleek, small, light and cost effective. For system-critical applications, the SmartVFD BYPASS is available in several configurations, including fused disconnect, and two and three contactors. The Honeywell SmartVFD HVAC and BYPASS maximize savings by operating as part of a complete building control system. This enables our customers to realize the energy-saving opportunities that exist in commercial buildings. “Not all VFDs are created equal,” said Dave Molin, General Manager of Honeywell Building Control Systems.
“To save the most energy and to operate buildings most efficiently, it’s essential to use commercial VFDs for commercial applications. VFDs must be designed, specified, installed and commissioned as part of the whole building system.”Honeywell International is a $37 billion diversified technology and manufacturing leader, serving customers worldwide with aerospace products and services; control technologies for buildings, homes and industry; automotive products; turbochargers; and specialty materials.
