Honeywell Introduces 1.5P Series Gear-Tooth Sensor for Automotive OEMs

Includes built in protection against pulsed transients

FREEPORT, Ill., February 16, 2004 — Honeywell [NYSE:HON] Sensing and Control has introduced the 1.5P Series Gear-Tooth sensor, for automotive OEMs. The 1.5P building block is a Hall effect gear-tooth sensor that accurately detects the movement of ferrous metal targets.

This sensor is ideal for camshaft and crankshaft speed and position sensing, transmission speed sensing, and tachometers in these harsh environments. This series has been carefully designed to allow for cost-effective final packaging. The 1.5P Gear-Tooth sensors function from a 4.5 Vdc to 24 Vdc power supply.

The output is digital, and current sinking or inverted are available options. Reverse polarity protection is standard. Also included is built-in protection against pulsed transients (ISO 7637/1) to protect against "pulses" or "spikes" that may occur in an automobile's electrical system. Output amplitude is not dependent on the speed of the target, and there is no need to purchase specific magnetic targets.
