This paper discusses the challenges faced in route planning and how existing algorithms are largely insufficient. It also discusses how the use of a hybrid heuristic method derived from the combination of straight line heuristics and real road distance metrics presents the best solution to solving the challenge of planning efficient routes at high speed for last-mile deliveries today.
